BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) Course

The Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) course is for all paddlers irrespective of craft and is ideal for club members and anybody who wishes to increase their paddle spport skill level. It is the first in British Canoeings suite of safety and rescue courses, the objective is to introduce the paddler to basic safety and rescue skills that can be applied in a sheltered water environment. It is a prerequisite for attendance at a Paddlepsort Instructor training course and is highly recommended to have attended before undertaking the Padlesport Leader Award.

To complete the course it is recommended that you are at about 2 Star performance level, you do not need to hold the award but you must be able to paddle both kayak and canoe.


  • £75 per person, including water fee.
  • BCU certificate fee payable of £5 for members, £10 for non members
  • 10% discount for a group of 4 or more (excludes certificate fee)


We require a minimum of two people to run this course.
