Wanting to explore the top end of Swaledale? Starting and finishing at the lovely village of Thwaite; this Upper Swaledale walk takes us over Kisdon Hill, passing both Catrake and Kisdon Force. We then return along the side of the Swale via Muker. This is a moderate walk of 16km.
Swaledale is one off the best known dales in Yorkshire. Often photographed and much loved; it will be starting to come out of its winter hibernation now, with views to live in the memory for ever. We will see the upper sections of the River Swale, one of the fastest rising and falling rivers in the country, as well as the evidence of a much more industrial past for the valley.
Please be properly equipped for a day at high elevations in the Pennines; waterproof jacket and trousers, good footwear and food and drink are essential. The Upper Swaledale walk goes high to start with and then drops into a valley to follow the river.
Your leader for the day, David, is a qualified Summer and Winter Mountain Leader and holds the International Mountain Leader Carnet. Cost is £30 per person 14yrs and over, £10 for 13yrs and under; dogs are welcome but must be on a lead.
