Paddlesport Instructor
The British Canoeing Awarding Body Paddlesport Instructor (PSI) is a great first step if you are looking to deliver safe and enjoyable taster/starter sessions.
The Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed for instructors running paddlesport taster/starter sessions within the safety management systems of clubs, centres or other organisations in:
- Very Sheltered Water environments
- Craft deemed suitable for a first-time experience
Method of Assessment
There are three specific assessment tasks be completed during the course:
- Professional Standards
- Rescue Skills
- Personal Skills
Prerequisites
- Minimum of 14years of age
- Full national association membership
- Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course or Foundation Safety and Rescue Training
The Course
It is a 2 day, combined training and assessment, course.
The venue is the North Yorkshire Scouts Activity Centre, Ellerton Park, Richmond, DL10 6AP.
The assessment on both personal and rescue skills is in the craft of your choice. You have to be able to self rescue in that craft, and, rescue all the other types of craft. As PSI, you will be able to run sessions for all craft types once qualified, but from your chosen craft.
There will be access to hot drinks and biscuits, but you will need to bring lunch and snacks with you. There is no where to buy lunch from nearby.
Equipment
We will supply all the equipment needed, but please bring your own buoyancy aid, board, kayak etc. if you have one. We do retain the right to stop you from using any personal items if we believe them to be unsafe.
You must be dressed appropriately for the conditions and the craft you are using. There are changing rooms and showers available.
During some sessions, notably the rescues, you will get wet! We encourage you to think about your clothing you will be using. We do have dry suits available on a first come, first served basis. There is an additional cost of £10 hire fee for the duration of the course. Please contact us if you would like to hire a dry suit.
