You have three specific areas for assessment tasks to complete during the course:
The course is 2 days, combined training and assessment.
It will be run from the West Leeds Activity Centre, Lenhurst Ave, Leeds, LS12 2RE. Using the Leeds Liverpool Canal that runs along the side of the centre.
You will be assessed on personal and rescue skills using the craft of your choice; kayak, canoe, sit in top or stand up paddle board. A PSI will be able to run sessions for all disciplines of craft, once qualified, from their craft of choice. During the course, you will get a chance to try other disciplines and be actively encouraged to.
There will be access to hot drinks and biscuits, but you will need to bring lunch and snacks with you. There is no where to buy lunch from nearby.
All equipment will be supplied but please bring your own buoyancy aid, craft etc. if you have one. We do retain the right to stop you from using any personal items if we believe them to be unsafe.
You must be dressed appropriately for the conditions and the craft you are using. There are changing rooms and showers available.
During some sessions, notably the rescues, you will be wet and we encourage you to think about your clothing that you will be using. We do have dry suits available on a first come, first served basis. There is an additional cost of £20 hire fee for the duration of the course. Please contact us if you would like to hire a dry suit.
