Paddlesport Safety & Rescue

Welcome to the British Canoeing Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course. This course is designed for the “Sheltered Water” environment. The aim is to provide paddlers with key safety and rescue skills to allow you to operate safely. You will also be able to deal with common problems that maybe encountered.

Course Overview

This course is designed for all paddlers, irrespective of their chosen craft. The objective is to introduce, explore and practice simple strategies and safe skills. Aiming to provide you with the tools to solve common paddling issues.

Content

Throughout the course, you explore simple strategies and safe skills that provide the tools for you to solve common paddling issues. The course focuses on rescuing from your specific craft. It covers equipment and safety frameworks, as well as a range of rescues including contact and towing rescues, self-rescues and deep water rescues.

The Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course is a 6-hour programme that consists of 6 modules.

We recommend a minimum age of 14. Ideally, you should be at the level of the Explore Award or old 2 Star Award to get the most out of this course.

Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who must be present at all times but can stay on the bank.
