Explore Paddlesport

Explore Paddlesport; with a variety of craft available, from kayaks too canoes, paddle boards and inflatables, Paddlesport takes many forms. You can choose from white water to river and sea touring. Altogether a great way to get on the water, have fun and discover the countryside around you.

Looking to hone in your skills before you head off on a paddle trail? If you’ve completed the Start or Discover award, want to develop your skills before moving on to Personal Performance Awards, or just want to build your confidence, the Explore award is for you!

What’s Involved?

If you want to become independent on the water, go on self-guided adventures and know how to control your craft and stay safe on the water, this is the award for you. If you’ve never been paddling before, it might be worth starting with the Start and Discover awards. In this award you will take ownership of your own decisions and learn to make confidence choices, based on the places you paddle, wind and weather.

We will spend the day looking at personal skills and rescues. The second will be a river trip, from Ripon to Boroughbridge, putting all your skills to use in an appropriate environment.

We recommend that for children to get the most out of this award, they are 12yrs or older. All under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All equipment is provided. We do have drysuits and wetsuits available; if you wish to use one on the course, there is an extra fee, please contact us. The course can be taken in either kayak, canoe, Stand Up Paddleboard or inflatable kayak. You can go tandem in canoe or inflatable kayak.
