Touring Award – British Canoeing Awarding Body (BCAB)

This award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills to an enjoyable and safe day out touring. You can take the award using any craft; inflatable kayak, kayak, canoe or Stand Up Paddleboard.

Your Touring Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making required to have a successful day on a river or estuary. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys with proficient skills to be in control throughout.

What’s Involved?

Looking to build skills and feel confident undertaking day trips on rivers and estuarys?

This award looks at various factors that influence decision making as well as controlling your craft. Topics covered include where to paddle, what to wear, weather. All discussed during the two days, as well as your personal skills and safety and rescues.

We will be using the River Ure, basing ourselves out of the marina at Boroughbridge. The first day will look at skills, equipment and planning. The second will involve a trip and rescues.

All equipment can be supplied, but we do encourage you to bring any of your own to use. It is our believe that if you have it, you need to know how to use it! However, we do reserve the right though, to refuse use if we believe it is not safe or suitable. We do have drysuits and wetsuits available; if you wish to use one on the course, there is an extra fee, please contact us.

This is an excellent award to do if you are thinking of completing the Paddlesport Leader Award.

Pre-requisties?

You should be able to control your craft in a sheltered water environment to the level of the Explore Award or old 2 Star. If you are new to the sport, details of the course can be found our website.

We recommend that for children to get the most out of this award, they are 16yrs or older. All under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
