A variation on a theme is the Ripon Loop! Come with us by canoe to West wick Lock, where we have lunch and then you return back to Ripon via the riverside paths for a self guided walk home. This is an ideal day out if you have a dog* or two and looking for a different activity to do with them.
This is one for those that like to mix their activities or just want to see as much of the local Ripon area as possible. It also means we do not have to move any vehicles around before we start the trip. Walking back from West Wick Lock is approximately 7km/4.3 miles, taking  a couple of hours at a steady, constant pace.
Walking back from West Wick, you follow the river north back past Newby Hall to start. Further on you join the Ripon Rowel path, which gives you the choice of an extension and walk into Bishop Monkton. If you do this you can visit the Lamb & Flag or the Masons Arms and return to the river via another path that joins the original one at Ox Close Lock on the canal. Once at the canal, it is an easy walk along the towpath back to Ripon. On the way there is a small nature resverve near the first bridge after Oxclose and you can divert again at this point, following the road and paths to Littlethorpe. From Littlethorpe, you can walk into Ripon or take a track back to the canal passing the Ripon Motor Boat Club marina
